Welcome Back, Welcome Back, Welcome Back!
"With fame, you know, you can read about yourself, somebody else's ideas about you, but what's most important is how you feel about yourself- for survival and living day to day with what comes up." -Marilyn Monroe
Tuesday, April 14th I came out of baseball hibernation- Opening Day at Safeco Field! Even though the season started April 6th, it didn't feel real until the team came home. With our 7-2 record, winning the first game of the season, and the last six straight- we're leading our division, league and second in the majors only to 8-1 Florida Marlins. Sweet. Am I dreaming?
Opening Day: Mariners win 3-2. Highlights included Griffey's celebrated return, a tribute to the Tuba Man during Take Me Out To The Ballgame, and Betancourt's 10th inning sacrifice bunt to win the game. Dave Niehaus opened the game with a poem. There was light music playing in the background and I kept looking around for Ken Burns.
If that wasn't fantastic enough, the next day we come back to win 11-3. Highlights included Ichiro's Grand Slam (on a full count) and Griffey's 400th HR with the Mariners which came on the tail of Chavez's home run. This game had everything in baseball- my scorecard looks so pretty. 'Best Game Ever!' So great in fact that I completely forgot to eat. It wasn't till the ride home through traffic that I began wondering why my tummy was rumbling. I had a beer, but I missed my garlic fries!
Tonight we play the Angels again @ 7:10. I'm watching the telly and waiting. I would like to go to the game again tonight, but it's a long drive and no one wants to go with me :(
My hats off to Don Wakamatsu. He is exactly what we've needed since Lou Piniella left. Whatever the reason, we need to keep this going all season!
xoxo
